Sunabe Seawall – an endless soft coral field

Most of Okinawa’s dive sites feature colorful hard coral reefs, but the Sunabe Seawall offers a refreshing change with its stunning soft corals. Stretching over 2 km, these soft coral fields create a captivating underwater landscape reminiscent of a flower park. Just north of Sunabe lies the Kadena seawall, also boasting the same topography and forming the largest soft coral reef in Okinawa.
Diving here is convenient, with dive sites accessible immediately upon entering the water. With parking available along the seawall and six different entry points, exploration is effortless. You could spend all day diving along this dynamic coastline and never encounter the same spot twice.

Arc Dive – one of the many dive sites at Sunabe Seawall
The most iconic dive site is Ark Dive. Just 30 meters from the entry stairs, divers reach a shallow valley dropping to 7 meters, featuring a mailbox in the middle, which is a perfect photo opportunity. Capturing a moment pretending to post a letter into the mailbox, with the caption “I send you a letter, but it might be a little wet,” always brings a smile. Beyond the valley, a slope descends to a flat 20-meter bottom, ideal for spotting octopus. Flanking the valley are 20-meter walls. Mid-dive, we ascend to the shallow soft coral field for a leisurely return to the exit zone. Cruising over these colorful fields is the highlight—a truly relaxing experience.
With its easy entry, shallow depth, and absence of currents, Sunabe Seawall caters to divers of all skill levels. Due to the access by stairs, good conditions are necessary for a safe entry without waves. Therefore a very useful live camera in this area will be check prior.
