PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience – try out diving for the first time

This program helps you out when you still in doubt if diving is your thing or not. Here you will learn the basic concepts of diving, practice in the shallow crucial diving skills and go afterwards on a two dive adventure. You will be treated the same way as if it would be your first day of the Open Water Course. So the focus here is to teach you already the basics and not just pulling you around underwater for some pictures, proper teaching all the way with LIVE FOR DIVING.

Let me explain you how Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) works here in Japan. People are doing it from the beach or by boat. There will be a basic briefing about important diving safety rules, explanations of elemental mask and regulator skills, but nothing about buoyancy. Under water the instructor is carrying mostly two DSD participants around, to places suitable for some nice pictures, let them kneel on the floor or on top of the reef, while holding onto some rocks and feed the fish for making pictures. That is the sad reality here in Japan. There is no neutral buoyancy practice and no chance to understand what diving really means.
How will be the DSD program with LIVE FOR DIVING? I will treat you the same way like you would do the first day of your PADI Open Water Course, which means we will practice all the basic skills in the shallow water, after properly weight you. No overweighted students kneeling on the floor. With the correct amount of weight we practice till you can be neutral buoyant. That takes a lot of time, but we take all the time it needs, till you feel comfortable underwater. Then it goes on a little test dive with the remaining air in the scuba cylinder.
After a snack and tea break, with changed air cylinders, we go for another ocean dive to a maximum of 12 m (39 feet). Then you really experienced what diving means, so you really tried out scuba diving. If you liked it and are interested in the PADI Open Water Diver Course, then we can straight away continuing with the course the next day, if schedule allows it.

The two gentlemen in the pictures above are Discover Scuba Diving participants without having a diving license. They were enjoying their time diving horizontally, being neutrally buoyant. This is possible if you take your time with people, explaining them the concept of neutral buoyancy, properly weight them and give them lots of practice time in the shallow water. If you are doing the DSD from a boat, this will be almost impossible, because there is not enough time. If you just want to be underwater for the first time and want to use the boat, then it can be also arranged.

Discover Scuba Diving from the beach are perfect at Gorilla Chop and Sunabe Seawall. The Maeda Blue Cave can be also used for DSD by boat and from the shore, depending on weather conditions.
