Minna Island – a true fish paradise

Minna Jima, shaped like a croissant, is a must-visit for divers in Okinawa. Just a 15-minute boat ride from Motobu port, it boasts the best coral reefs in the region and abundant marine life. The boat parks at a mooring line in around 10m of water, with the endless coral reef stretching from 10m to the shallows. With crystal clear visibility and a stunning blue color, the water offers an enchanting experience. As you descend to depths of 18 to 25m across Minna’s six dive sites, you’ll encounter separated coral reef structures teeming with diverse fish species.
Keep an eye out for vast fields of garden eels on the sandy bottom. During surface intervals, enjoy tea and snacks at Minna’s small port, making for a relaxing break between dives.

The Minna Jima boat is also going to the neighboring island Sesoko. There are a couple of different shaped dive sites. Depending on the weather and wind direction, here you have still safe diving, when Minna Jima is too rough in case of north and east wind. Sesoko offers you a slopy hard coral reef from 4m down to 20m. Labyrinth, located at Sesoko’s west coast is a fascinating dive site, which I always enjoy. Plenty of swim throughs, channels and overhangs are waiting for you. It feels like an adventure park, diving through the structures, while looking into every little hole and opening. White tip reef sharks can be encountered here, swimming around or just lying beneath an overhang.
This Minna Jima boat trip is suitable for all level of diving experience, because of the shallow depths and just mild currents. If you want to see the beauty of a healthy coral reef, dive here in Minna Jima.
